Abbeygate Residential Home is an elegant country house set in landscaped gardens in the beautiful city of Winchester. The house provides modern spacious accommodation for up to 30 residents.

Nestling in the Hampshire countryside on the edge of Winchester, our country home aims to provide a warm and personal service for discerning individuals. We hope that guests of Abbeygate, with high expectations and standards will find no reason for these to alter as their lifestyle changes.

Abbeygate is owned by Safequarter, the Directors are Mr and Mrs Hutchins. Mrs Zoë Hutchins has over twenty years experience in the provision of care for the elderly. Mr Miles Hutchins has an extensive background in a business environment. Safequarter is committed to providing high quality care both in terms of physical environment and in its holistic approach to care for the individual. Visit www.safequarter.co.uk to see the other homes in the group.

Our home is managed by Jean Benjamin, an experienced Manager who has worked with older people since 1989. Jean is supported by a team of qualified carers and professional administrative staff. We know the best care is achieved by a continuous commitment to training for all grades of staff. Hence we offer progressive training for all staff up to NVQ level. Additionally, the company integrate all avenues of training, from statutory training such as moving and handling to more specialised courses such as palliative and dementia care.

Client profile
Abbeygate can accommodate 30 people. We offer short breaks, convalescence, long term and day care for people of retirement age and above. We are able to provide full personal care, in a safe and secure environment for those with dementia. Most nursing needs can be met by Community nurses who visit Abbeygate as required. In this way we aim to avoid the need for residents to move from the home, if their care needs change.

During a resident's stay at Abbeygate, staff actively encourage and promote the residents to maintain contact with their relatives, friends and advocates. There are currently three sitting rooms to entertain visitors should a resident prefer not to use their room. There are no restrictions on visiting hours at the care home.

Suggestions and complaints
Residents at Abbeygate are actively encouraged to participate in the resident's meetings where they can voice their opinions on a generalised basis. Questionnaires are used to help improve the quality of care and service they receive from the Home. Our complaints procedure allows more serious concerns to be dealt with immediately by management, in complete confidence.

Most importantly, Abbeygate places great emphasis on maintaining the privacy and dignity of its residents. Each resident has a right to respect and confidentiality in personal, medical, social or legal matters. We pride ourselves in providing the highest standards of care and hope each resident who enters Abbeygate will come to regard it as Home.

Abbeygate constantly achieves the 5 Star Award For Food Hygiene. You can find the full report on the CQC website: www.cqc.org.uk

The home is a member of The National Care Association and is protected by robust Fire Safety and Health & Safety policies, which are regularly reviewed and updated.
